Software Advisor & Product Owner Werner Gabriëls

''Coming up with solutions is a creative process''

Werner trained as a Landscape Architect, then designed ladies’ and men’s bags, and subsequently ended up in the world of software. That may seem like an unusual choice, but nothing could be further from the truth.

As a 6-year-old boy, his favorite gift from Sinterklaas was a sketchbook and a set of pencils: he is extremely creative. That creativity is also what appeals to him in his work as a Software Advisor for Pharius and Product Owner for Riskreporter. ''It always starts with a client’s question and a number of fixed factors you have to take into account. Solving that question is what gives me energy. It’s a creative process of designing and creating.''

Workplace safety Awareness

''It goes much further than software''

''Software is really my thing, although I can't program. I don't have that ambition either. It's about coming up with solutions. I sketch out in detail what something could look like. So that in the end we deliver something that is useful for the customer. Which ultimately makes companies a bit safer. That's what it's all about. The point is that everyone gets home safely to sit at the table after a day at work.''

Customer contact Building a bond

"What does someone need?"

''Finding out what a customer really needs is essential. We guide customers from A to Z: this means that someone is assigned an advisor who both supervises the setup of the software and provides training. Although I am increasingly involved in development, I still regularly do implementations for new customers with more complex issues. This way, I stay in touch with the customer. Only then do you really find out what a customer truly needs, and I take that with me into the development work.

Moreover, it makes my work a lot more personal. During such a process, you build a relationship. How great is it when a customer calls: "Hey Werner, how did that work again? Can you help me with this?" Customers are much more likely to ask questions than when you end up at a general helpdesk.''

Grand ambitions We are dreamers

Conquering Europe Together

We are working hard to conquer Belgium and France with Pharius. And not only that; we dream of a Pharius for all European QHSE professionals. We are already working towards this goal, from our office in Mechelen or from home. At least once a week, we meet each other at the office. Hybrid working is the norm here.

In this team, we say everything to each other. You can speak your mind here, even if you disagree with something. We listen to each other and are open to the opinions of others. In our team, you will find different personalities and that’s a good thing. No one needs to change, everyone is who they are and contributes in their own way.
