Safety and compliance as core values
Diagnostiek voor U (DvU) plays an important role within healthcare and works closely with other healthcare providers. It has a modern laboratory for blood and urine tests and also conducts diagnostic examinations, such as X-rays, radiological ultrasounds, ECGs, and lung function tests. Safety is an integral part of daily operations, with special attention to the transport and disposal of hazardous substances.
Because DvU regularly disposes of large quantities of biomedical waste, it is required to be supported by an ADR safety advisor. In addition, DvU itself transports diagnostic samples and small quantities of hazardous substances. This falls under ADR regulations. Since 2015, Hans Been, ADR safety advisor at Lexerta, has been assisting DvU with the annual inspection to ensure that the requirements of the ADR are fully complied with.
Annual ADR Inspection
During the previous inspection, 11 findings were identified that did not fully comply with the ADR guidelines. During the new inspection, it was found that 7 of these 11 shortcomings had been resolved or actions had been taken to address them. Four aspects still needed to be improved or adjusted. In addition, 6 new aspects came to light that required attention. In total, the inspection resulted in 10 points that required improvement or adjustment.
The annual inspection takes place in two steps:
- Step 1: re-check of previous findings
During this step, it is checked which actions from the previous inspection have been fully implemented and which still require attention. This expedites the implementation of measures and ensures structural compliance. - Step 2: new findings
Here, current compliance with laws and regulations is assessed, as well as changes in regulations that make adjustments in working methods necessary. The advisor provides concrete recommendations for improvements, which form the starting point for the following year's inspection.
Inspection and support on location
During the inspection, Lexerta was present at DvU to answer inspectors' questions, clarify processes, and give a presentation on important ADR topics. Everything took place in close cooperation with the internal coordinators, ensuring the inspection went smoothly and the VBS could be presented correctly and clearly.

Thanks to the systematic approach of re-inspection and new findings, DvU was able to clearly monitor all points of attention. As a result, the organization fully complies with ADR guidelines and daily operations can be carried out safely and efficiently. The transport and management of diagnostic samples and biomedical waste are also compliant, ensuring that risks are well controlled.
